Elon Musk tweeted that Teslas “will” soon be able to talk to nearby pedestrians in the latest functionalities that are set to be added to the cars. Musk tweeted a video clip on his official Twitter to announce it.
In the clip, a model 3 is seen driving past a pedestrian while its speaker plays a clip that said, “Well don’t just stand there staring, hop in.” Musk further added, “Teslas will soon talk to people if you want. This is real”
Tesla had to add external speakers to comply with new safety regulations that required electric cars to produce artificial noise. It looks like Musk has figured out a way to use the speakers for much more. They could also fart in the direction of people.
Musk also announced, in a follow-up tweet, that the new speakers could also work with the car’s existing sentry mode alarm system which uses the car’s internal sound system to deter thieves.
Musk has talked about an autonomous fleet of Tesla cars that operate as a taxi and the external speakers might go a long way in making that dream possible. With no driver in the car, it can stop close to a pedestrian and tell them to hop into the car. Musk said the new upgrades will be rolled out soon.
