According to a recent CARB certification published by Tesla on 9 January, provide a clue on when Model Y deliveries could begin. Though Tesla has not yet come out to confirm whether these deliveries will be next month, the model 3 deliveries that began 26 days after CARB certification, hint at a most likely next month delivery of model y.
However, according to some sources, the model Y delivers to tesla employees could start in February and then later followed by customers in March. During the earning call of the Q3 2019, Elon musk pointed out that model y deliveries were expected in the summer of 2020, which made them ahead of schedule because they were expected in the fall of 2020.
Model y is likely to outsell the entire current tesla lineup combined due to a high demand in the SUV segment according to Elon Musk on the recent earnings call.
“The Model Y is essentially meant to be an affordable SUV in the same way the Model 3 is meant to be an affordable electric sedan. These are both very important segments because obviously some people prefer a sedan and some people prefer an SUV. But actually, probably, even more people prefer an SUV than a sedan. I think ultimately Model Y will have more demand than probably all of the other cars from Tesla combined” – Elon Musk
In other good news to reservation holders, the Tesla Model Y is now a listed model on NHTSA’s manufacturer page for Tesla, and Model Y VINs can now be decoded using the official NHSTA decoder. The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) which is used to identify where and when the vehicle was manufactured plus some unique characters that make each vehicle unique.
